Eating in front of other people is often the last thing to get easier in eating disorder treatment.
A client can do real work in session — plan the meal, name the fear, understand why the food itself isn't the threat — and still find that actually sitting down to eat it is where things stall. Insight and exposure are two different skills. Only one of them can be practiced alone.
That's why we're launching FED Up Supper Club, a monthly meal support group at our SouthPark office in Charlotte. The name does double duty: fed, as in actually fed, and fed up — the point in recovery where someone is tired of the eating disorder deciding how dinner goes.
How it works:
→ 2nd Wednesday of the month, 6:00–7:00 pm
→ Adults 18+, all genders, capped at six participants → Clients bring their own dinner and a beverage
→ $25 per group
→ One of our team is at the table for the whole meal
→ A new theme each month — breakfast for dinner, childhood favorites, holiday meals, dessert included.
The themes aren't decoration. They give us a structured, repeatable way into the meals that tend to get quietly avoided — the dessert, the holiday table, the food someone loved before their eating disorder made it complicated.
And a small group means the support is actually individualized rather than diluted.
We ask for a referral from the client's therapist or dietitian, because meal support works best when someone is holding the broader treatment picture. We're not looking to replace that relationship — we want to add a place where the skills you're building get rehearsed with other people in the room.
Clients appropriate for this group are mild to moderate acuity.
If you have a client who's ready to practice, we would love to collaborate with you.
